Some of the common conditions we treat can be found below.

Cranial Cruciate Ligament Disease

The most common cause of hindlimb lameness in the dog. TPLO offers an excellent surgical solution and is widely regarded as the treatment of choice for most dogs.

Patellar Luxation

When the patella (knee cap) displaces from its normal location on the front of the femur (thigh bone). This commonly causes skipping or lameness. Surgery to keep the patella in the correct position is usually highly successful.

Elbow Dysplasia

A developmental condition resulting in forelimb lameness, primarily in young, large breed dogs. Arthroscopy (key hole surgery) can be used as a diagnostic test and to help treat the condition in many cases.

Hip Dislocation

Frequently a result of trauma, surgery is often required to replace the hip and prevent repeated dislocation.

Fractures

Each fracture is different, we have expertise in managing a huge variety of fracture types. In most cases, we use internal fixation to reduce postoperative care requirements and the need for a second procedure.

Arthrodesis

Fusion of a painful or unstable joint to allow pain free movement. This is most commonly performed in the carpus (wrist) and tarsus (ankle).

Humeral Intracondylar Fissure (HIF)

Mainly seen in spaniels, HIF frequently causes pain and

lameness and can lead to a fracture. Placement of a transcondylar screw can resolve the signs and

significantly reduces the risk of a fracture.

Case Studies

Mimi - Tibial Fracture

Mimi, a 9kg, three year old Pomeranian sustained a tibial fracture following surgical management of medial patellar luxation, performed elsewhere. Tim reduced then stabilised the fracture with a 2.4mm bone plate applied to the medial aspect of the tibia with a combination of cortical and locking screws. The video shows Mimi weight bearing comfortably on the limb three weeks after surgery, and further improvement is expected over the coming weeks.

Chip - Elbow Arthroscopy

Chip, an 18 month old English Bulldog had been lame on his right forelimb for 3-4 months. A CT revealed Medial Coronoid Process Disease (a component of elbow dysplasia) within his right elbow & an arthroscopy was recommended. Using minimally invasive 'needle' arthroscopy, Tim identified a fissure line along the medial coronoid process and removed the fragment of abnormal cartilage & bone. The two tiny incisions were each closed with a single stitch. Within a couple of weeks, Chip's lameness had resolved.

Following surgery Chip's owner said "He is AMAZING! The surgery has been a complete life changer for him, and he is back, fully active and loving life. I can't thank you enough for giving me my dog back."
